Where We Can Do More

While Being Fed With The Official Line

  • Scientific basis for GMO crops is false

Unpredictable effects. Unknown outcomes. Potential health consequences. Uncertain gene technology.

These aren’t phrases biotech giants like to hear.

    They prefer:

    “One gene produces one protein.”

“Each gene has a specific function.”

This is the basis for the modern biotech industry, and it applies most definitely to GMO crops.

    And it is false.

Where Legal Ain’t Necessarily LAWFUL

  • Privacy Group Wins Court Ruling Against FBI’s Facial-Recognition Technology   A federal judge has ruled that the FBI’s futuristic facial-recognition database is deserving of scrutiny from open-government advocates because of the size and scope of the surveillance technology.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan said the bureau’s Next Generation Identification program represents a “significant public interest” due to concerns regarding its potential impact on privacy rights and should be subject to rigorous transparency oversight.

  • Thoughts and Concerns about Operation Onymous

    What happened

Recently it was announced that a coalition of government agencies took control of many Tor hidden services. We were as surprised as most of you. Unfortunately, we have very little information about how this was accomplished, but we do have some thoughts which we want to share.

Over the last few days, we received and read reports saying that several Tor relays were seized by government officials. We do not know why the systems were seized, nor do we know anything about the methods of investigation which were used. Specifically, there are reports that three systems of Torservers.net disappeared and there is another report by an independent relay operator. If anyone has more details, please get in contact with us. If your relay was seized, please also tell us its identity so that we can request that the directory authorities reject it from the network.

But, more to the point, the recent publications call the targeted hidden services seizures “Operation Onymous” and they say it was coordinated by Europol and other government entities

  • SMACKDOWN! Appeals Court Paves Way For Almost 2 Million Concealed Carry Permits in CA

The U.S. Court of Appeals shot down Attorney General Kamala Harris’s attempt to rehear (and overturn)  Peruta V. San Diego County.

Peruta struck down the restrictive “good cause” provision of the concealed carry policy of San Diego County.

A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals voted 2-1 today to deny a bid by California Attorney General Kamala Harris, a gun control organization and two police lobbying groups to challenge the court’s February ruling that any responsible, law-abiding citizen is entitled under the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment to possess a concealed firearm in public for self-defense. Harris may appeal the decision. Her spokesman, David Beltran, said the office is reviewing it.

The panel ruled in February that San Diego County’s process for determining who qualifies for a permit to carry a concealed weapon violates the right to bear arms. California’s concealed-carry laws are among the most stringent in the U.S.

The ruling means that California will effectively become “shall issue,” and must issue concealed carry permits to otherwise qualified applicants who had previously been stopped by the unevenly applied “good cause” provisions.

Or Where “Humans” Start Stoopid And Get More Worse Stoopider

  • Virus that ‘makes humans more stupid’ discovered

A virus that infects human brains and makes us more stupid has been discovered, according to scientists in the US.
The algae virus, never before observed in healthy people, was found to affect cognitive functions including visual processing and spatial awareness. “Many physiological differences between person A and person B are encoded in the set of genes each inherits from parents, yet some of these differences are fuelled by the various microorganisms we harbour and the way they interact with our genes.”
Of the 90 participants in the study, 40 tested positive for the algae virus. Those who tested positive performed worse on tests designed to measure the speed and accuracy of visual processing. They also achieved lower scores in tasks designed to measure attention.

  • Ok The Kill-Joy Makes Some Valid Points:  3 Things You Should Know About the ”Stupid Virus”  I think the headlines should have read a lot differently. This discovery could have big implications for people for a few reasons. Yet, where is the media panic now? No…now it’s been made cute and funny by dubbing it the “stupid virus.”

Before we get carried away with giddy headlines pointing out how so many people must have “caught stupid” – let’s get a couple of things straight.

    1. This is not a “stupid virus,” per se – The “stupid virus” title is meant to be a humorous, eye catching marketing hook for bored journalists. It’s actually an unwittingly cruel joke. In the original study, the researchers refer to cognitive decline and memory problems due to the virus.

Because Stoopid IS IS Stoopid

  • Study: Brazilian cops killed more than 11,000 people in 5 years

Brazilian police killed more than 11,000 people between 2009 and 2013 for an average of six killings a day, a public safety NGO said Tuesday.

The study by the Sao Paulo-based Brazilian Forum on Public Safety said police nationwide killed 11,197 people over the past five years, while law enforcement agents in the United States killed 11,090 people over the past 30 years.

“The empirical evidence shows that Brazilian police make abusive use of lethal force to respond to crime and violence,” the report said.

  • Hero Cops Assault and Arrest Two Marines Who Were Giving First Aid to an Unconscious Man
Two active duty U.S. Marines have been charged with felony assault and battery charges stemming from an altercation with San Diego police officers and face the possibility of being dishonorably discharged from the service if convicted, as well as up to three years in prison.
Although being charged with assault and battery, video captured on an officer’s body camera indicates a different set of circumstance than the narrative put forth by the officers involved in the incident, and backs up claims made by the men and their attorneys. “What you’re seeing here appears to be assault and battery under color of authority and is definitely a violation of the civil rights of these Marines”.

  • Gruber’s goobers: Obamacare deception

Everybody knows Jonathan Gruber now. He was a consultant who helped frame the Obamacare law.

He’s stated that that, yes, Obamacare has a tax in its provisions, and yes the public was deceived.

Gruber: “This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies… [I]f you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in – you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed… Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical for the thing to pass… Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.”

  • UN encourages travel to ‘vibrant and alive’ Ebola-hit West Africa, as death toll tops 5,000

The UN’s Ebola czar on Wednesday encouraged tourists to visit West Africa, saying Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea were “vibrant and alive” and that contact with infected people was largely avoidable.

“I want to encourage everybody to maintain travel, tourism even to places that have Ebola. There is just no reason not to go to Freetown, Monrovia, Conakry,” David Nabarro, the UN coordinator on Ebola, told the UN Economic and Social Council.

“These are cities which have got fabulous places for tourism. They are unfortunately not very full at the moment.”

  • DOJ: Some Constitutional Rights Can’t Be Tested In Courts, Like Our Ability To Kill You With A Drone

    from the say-what-now? dept

Another day, another crazy claim from the DOJ. The latest concerns a legal challenge to the administration’s ability to use drone strikes against US citizens abroad. The US has been arguing that this issue cannot be tried in court because it’s outside the court’s jurisdiction and because of national security reasons. Most ridiculously of all, the DOJ has argued that there are Constitutional rights that cannot be challenged in court:

Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Hauck argued there was a difference between having a constitutional right—which he said could be protected by the executive and legislative branches—and being able to make constitutional claims in court.

Think about that statement for a second. It’s not just legally wrong, it’s horrifying. Thankfully, Judge Rosemary Collyer found this claim equally bizarre.

“I’m really troubled…that you cannot explain to me where the end of it is,” Collyer said. “That, yes, they have constitutional rights but there is no remedy for those constitutional rights.”

  • Wall Street Journal Reports Obama’s Attorney General Nominee Has Been Involved in $904 Million in Asset Forfeitures

Earlier today, I posted the most recent piece in a series highlighting the insidious and lawless practice of civil asset forfeiture being abused by police departments and prosecutors across America in the post: Quote of the Day – An Incredible Statement from the City Attorney of Las Cruces, New Mexico. I suggest reading that before checking out the rest of this post.

Considering the fact that civil asset forfeiture has rightly entered the national spotlight as of late, the stance of Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, on the matter is extremely important. Particularly if the Wall Street Journal is correct and her office had been aggressive in utilizing this practice to seize funds under her oversight.

  • Policing for Profit

A traffic stop along Interstate 40 is raising new questions about your constitutional rights. Among the questions: what happens to your right to say “no” to a search when police are looking for cash?

The traffic stop occurred west of Nashville, along a stretch of interstate in Dickson County that’s become well-known for a controversial practice known as “policing for profit.”

For three years, our investigation has documented how drug interdiction agencies in that area target out-of-state drivers. Those agencies fund their operations under a state law that lets them seize cash from drivers based on the suspicion that it’s drug money.

“It seems like Nazi Germany, you’ve got to have the paperwork and the proper authorities to come through Tennessee,” said San Diego resident Ronnie Hankins.

Hankins and his wife Lisa had been on the road for days back in May, after attending a family funeral in Virginia, when they got stopped on the westbound side of I-40. It came right after they passed an interdiction agent with the 23rd Judicial District Drug Task Force.

    Lisa was driving.

“I told her we are going to get pulled over,” Ronnie remembered.

“What made you think he was going to stop you?” NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked.

“Because we had out-of-state license plates and my wife is Hispanic.”
After separating Lisa from her husband, supposedly so he could write her a warning ticket for a traffic violation, dashcam video shows that the agent began repeatedly questioning her about what was inside the car.

  • Civil Asset Forfeiture Victim Fought — and “Won” — When the Government Tried to Take His Property

Imagine owning your home outright after finally paying off the bank. You’re nearing retirement, and you’re making plans to travel and visit the grandkids. Then one day, you get a letter from the government with an unexpected declaration: We now own your house.

Russ Caswell, a 72-year-old business owner from Massachusetts, got one of those letters. Except the government seized his entire business — a motel worth nearly $2 million — without so much as a warning.
