  • Mid-East Coup: As Russia Pounds Militant Targets, Iran Readies Ground Invasions While Saudis Panic
ack in June, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qasem Soleimaini, visited a town north of Latakia on the frontlines of Syria’s protracted civil war. Following that visit, he promised that Tehran and Damascus were set to unveil a new strategy that would “surprise the world.” Just a little over a month later, Soleimani – in violation of a UN travel ban – visited Russia and held meetings with The Kremlin. The Pentagon now says those meetings were “very important” in accelerating the timetable for Russia’s involvement in Syria. The General allegedly made another visit to Moscow in September. The timeline here is no coincidence. Iran has long provided covert and overt support to the Assad regime via financial transfers, logistical support from the Quds, and via the involvement of Hezbollah in the Assad government’s fight to regain control of the country.
  • Washington Blasts Putin For Russian Strikes On “CIA-Backed Rebels” In Syria
Following Russian lawmakers’ move to officially sanction airstrikes in Syria, Moscow wasted no time in launching its first round of air raids. In turn, the West wasted no time in contending that Russia is targeting areas that aren’t known to be strategically significant for ISIS. Here’s a look at two headlines which do a nice job of summarizing all of the rhetoric which you’re about to hear emanating ceaselessly from every corner of the Western world in the coming days and weeks:U.S. IS CONCERNED RUSSIA’S INTENT IS PROTECTING ASSAD: KERRY

  • MASSIVE GLOBAL COOLING process discovered as Paris climate deal looms

As world leaders get ready to head to Paris for the latest pact on cutting CO2 emissions, it has emerged that there isn’t as much urgency about the matter as had been thought.A team of top-level atmospheric chemistry boffins from France and Germany say they have identified a new process by which vast amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted into the atmosphere from the sea – a process which was unknown until now, meaning that existing climate models do not take account of it.The effect of VOCs in the air is to cool the climate down, and thus climate models used today predict more warming than can actually be expected. Indeed, global temperatures have actually been stable for more than fifteen years, a circumstance which was not predicted by climate models and which climate science is still struggling to assmilate.

In essence, the new research shows that a key VOC, isoprene, is not only produced by living organisms (for instance plants and trees on land and plankton in the sea) as had previously been assumed. It is also produced in the “microlayer” at the top of the ocean by the action of sunlight on floating chemicals – no life being necessary. And it is produced in this way in very large amounts.

According to an announcement just issued by the German government’s Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research:

Atmospheric chemists from France and Germany, however, can now show that isoprene can also be formed without biological sources in the surface film of the oceans by sunlight and so explain the large discrepancy between field measurements and models. The new identified photochemical reaction is therefore important to improve the climate models.

Global models at the moment assume total emissions of isoprene from all sources – trees, plants, plankton, the lot – of around 1.9 megatons per year. But, according to the new research, the newly discovered “abiotic” process releases as much as 3.5 megatons on its own.

  • Isoprene

Isoprene, or 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, is a common organic compound with the formula CH2=C(CH3)CH=CH2. In its pure form, it is a colorless volatile liquid. Isoprene is produced by many plants.

  • The Last Time CO2 Was This High, Humans Didn’t Exist

The last time there was this much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth’s atmosphere, modern humans didn’t exist. Megatoothed sharks prowled the oceans, the world’s seas were up to 100 feet higher than they are today, and the global average surface temperature was up to 11°F warmer than it is now.As we near the record for the highest CO2 concentration in human history — 400 parts per million — climate scientists worry about where we were then, and where we’re rapidly headed now.

Papal Technocracy

  • Poverty, nuclear weapons and the environment: Pope Francis at the UN
Addressing the UN Sustainable Development Summit on Friday, the head of the Roman Catholic Church made a nod to the importance of the UN, now that technology has enabled humanity to overcome distance and frontiers and “all natural limits to the exercise of power.”Technological power, in the hands of nationalistic or falsely universalist ideologies, is capable of perpetrating tremendous atrocities,” the Pope said.

UNiveralist Commandment

  • Climate change alarmism is a religious belief – it’s official

So there you have it. The climate debate is over. Or it is, provided you accept that the highest authority of the human race is Pope Francis. The long-awaited papal encyclical “Laudato Si” is now officially published, and it says pretty much what it had been expected to say. Planet Earth is described as “like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us”.Our sister/mother with whom we cohabit and embrace is under terrible threat from greenhouse gases:

We are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system. In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events … Humanity is called to recognize the need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this warming …

Most global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity.

There are a lot of people – around a third of Britons*, for instance – who say they believe that, though not so many who are genuinely willing to give up their cars, regular washing, central heating, healthcare, foreign travel etc. The Pope also suggests that it’s very unfair that the world’s poor mostly don’t have any of those things – but like most other concerned eco-advocates, he is unwilling to admit the inconvenient truth that we will need huge amounts of non-renewable energy if the poor are ever to get a taste of the good life.

An earlier Pope made it pretty plain that encyclicals like this one aren’t just discussion documents:

Nor must it be thought that what is expounded in Encyclical Letters does not of itself demand consent … if the Supreme Pontiffs in their official documents purposely pass judgment on a matter up to that time under dispute, it is obvious that that matter … cannot be any longer considered a question open to discussion …

So it’s open and shut, for good Catholics who accept that the Pope is the supreme authority governing the human race. For them the climate debate is now over: the Supreme Pontiff’s words demand their consent.

  • Pope Invoking Globalization

The closing event for Pope Francis followed his Mass in “Francisville,” which the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia renamed the city during mass, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. It was quite boring compared to his appearance in New York at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan for the evening prayer, where he delivered pretty shocking words, stating with no shame to his flock that: “We need to remember that we are followers of Jesus Christ and his life, humanly speaking, ended in failure, the failure of the cross.”

These words have of course outraged most true Christians around the world who cannot imagine Christianity without the value of the cross, which symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus for mankind. It’s impossible for a Christian of any denomination to imagine the very essence of their faith being discussed in this way, let alone by the Pope. The fact that blood was shed on the cross by Jesus for the ultimate self-sacrifice that could help rid mankind of all sins is one of those essentials of the Faith that should never be questioned.

The mainstream media persists with their undying affection for Pope Francis, never commenting on this outrageous statement.

So why is the Jesuit Pope putting the sacrifice of the cross into question? The answer is to gradually prepare us for “One World Religion,” where no symbol will prevail over the other in the name of ecumenism.

  • Pope Francis Set to Canonize Islamic Missionary Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of ISIS

Pope Francis announced this week his decision to proceed with the canonization of Islamic missionary Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. A controversial figure, Baghdadi, according to the Washington Post, “established Islamic missions … as he marched North with [the] conquistadors.” A statue of Baghdadi, notes the Post, was recently erected “in the Saudi Capitol”.

Francis informed audiences present for the announcement that Baghdadi “was one of the founding fathers of the Islamic State” and provides “a saintly example of the Quran’s universality”.

Monsignor J. Michael McKiernan, rector of Islamic Basilica in Sinjar, Iraq, says while Baghdadi, like everyone, has “human flaws and difficulties and struggles”, his “overall … legacy [is] a positive one.”

“It’s not all happiness and grace. There have been some difficult times as well,” McKiernan said to Reuters TV.

“So some of the things that [the] Yazidis are concerned about are very real and we don’t want to deny those, but also recognizing that Baghdadi’s legacy [has] also brought beautiful things as we celebrate here every single day.”

In contrast, Yazidi author Simon Moya-Smith points out that Baghdadi “brutally beat[s] and whip[s] men, women and children in order to force obedience among the Yazidi people” and “celebrate[s] the demise of Yazidi children, referring to their deaths as a ‘harvest.’”

He continues that Yazidis who refuse to “voluntarily enter Baghdadi’s mosques [are] kidnapped and then held captive within the mosque’s parapets, where they [are] subjected to an ‘unforgiving regimen that [has] claim[ed] the lives of 62,000 Yazidis and devastate[d] their civilization[],” bringing about “extinctions” of numerous entire towns.

But “exaltation” of Baghdadi and people like him is “nothing new”, says Moya-Smith. “[T]he celebration of aggressive Islamic conquest by religious zealots is evident the world over, especially here in the Middle East”.

In his opinion, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, rather than a pillar of “piety and deliverance”, is a “religious extremist…” and “the antithesis” of sainthood.

Fallible Feelings

  • Pope feels ‘used’ by fake friends

Pope Francis says he has felt “used” by people claiming to be his friend since he became pontiff, in a radio interview touching on the personal side of his papacy.

“I never had so many quote-unquote ‘friends’ as now. Everyone is the pope’s friend,” Francis said in a telephone interview with radio station Milenium in his native Argentina.

“I have felt used by people who presented themselves as my friends and whom I hadn’t seen more than once or twice in my life. They have used that to their own benefit. But it’s an experience we all go through,” he told Argentine journalist Marcelo Gallardo

  • Fairbanks, Alaska Sees Record September Daily Snow; Thousands Without Power, Trees Downed

For the second time in less than a week, Fairbanks, Alaska, was blanketed with heavy snow. This time, it was a record-breaker.Officially, 11.2 inches of snow blanketed Fairbanks International Airport Tuesday, setting an all-time September daily snow record, previously 7.8 inches on Sep. 13, 1992.This also topped the previous record for any 24-hour September snowfall of 9 inches in 1992, according to Rick Thoman from the National Weather Service in Fairbanks. Records in Fairbanks date to 1904.Golden Valley Electric Agency reported an estimated 7,000-9,000 customers without power as of early Wednesday morning in Fairbanks and in nearby areas. This was down from a peak of about 13,000 customers Tuesday evening, or roughly 30 percent of their total customers.

Dangers of Geo-engineering

  • MIT Study Warns About the Dangers of Geoengineering & Weather Modification

As humanity works to avoid further environmental and ecological destruction to the planet, scientists continue to search for possible solutions to the numerous issues facing our species. One of these proposed solutions has been the science of geoengineering.According to a 2013 congressional report:“The term ‘geoengineering’ describes this array of technologies that aim, through large-scale and deliberate modifications of the Earth’s energy balance, to reduce temperatures and counteract anthropogenic climate change. Most of these technologies are at the conceptual and research stages, and their effectiveness at reducing global temperatures has yet to be proven. Moreover, very few studies have been published that document the cost, environmental effects, socio-political impacts, and legal implications of geoengineering. If geoengineering technologies were to be deployed, they are expected to have the potential to cause significant transboundary effects.

In general, geoengineering technologies are categorized as either a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) method or a solar radiation management (SRM) method. CDR methods address the warming effects of greenhouse gases by removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. CDR methods include ocean fertilization, and carbon capture and sequestration. SRM methods address climate change by increasing the reflectivity of the Earth’s atmosphere or surface.

Aerosol injection and space-based reflectors are examples of SRM methods. SRM methods do not remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, but can be deployed faster with relatively immediate global cooling results compared to CDR methods.”

Geoengineering is seen as a controversial solution, to say the least. That controversy is likely to deepen following a recent study from MIT’s Center for Global Change Science and the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences. The study, published in Nature’s Scientific Reports, has found that ocean fertilization geoengineering would alter global rainfall patterns and affect water resources.
