- NY Times Reporter Found Dead After Exposing MKUltra
Sarah Kershaw was found asphyxiated due to strangulation on Monday at her apartment in Sosua.
Project MKUltra, often referred to as the CIA’s mind control program, was the code name given to an illegal program of experiments on human subjects, designed and undertaken by the the CIA. Ms Kershaw published an article with the New York Times exploring this subject in 2008 with her article Sharing their Demons on the Web, writing:
“For people who regularly visit and write on message boards on the mind-control sites, the idea that others would describe the sites as promoting delusional.
- Helicopter Tests For Radiation Above Boston Marathon Route
The federal government’s radiation-detecting helicopter flew over the Boston Marathon route on Wednesday.
“Just as a precautionary measure, it doesn’t mean that anybody expects that something will happen,” says Mark Parsons of the National Nuclear Security Administration.
The helicopter flies about 150-feet off the ground and picks up normal signs of radiation like over medical facilities and construction sites that use x-ray machines.
- Clothes that receive and transmit digital information are closer to reality
Researchers who are working to develop wearable electronics have reached a milestone: They are able to embroider circuits into fabric with 0.1 mm precision—the perfect size to integrate electronic components such as sensors and computer memory devices into clothing.
With this advance, the Ohio State University researchers have taken the next step toward the design of functional textiles—clothes that gather, store, or transmit digital information. With further development, the technology could lead to shirts that act as antennas for your smart phone or tablet, workout clothes that monitor your fitness level, sports equipment that monitors athletes’ performance, a bandage that tells your doctor how well the tissue beneath it is healing—or even a flexible fabric cap that senses activity in the brain.
That last item is one that John Volakis, director of the ElectroScience Laboratory at Ohio State, and research scientist Asimina Kiourti are investigating. The idea is to make brain implants, which are under development to treat conditions from epilepsy to addiction, more comfortable by eliminating the need for external wiring on the patient’s body.
“A revolution is happening in the textile industry,” said Volakis, who is also the Roy & Lois Chope Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering at Ohio State. “We believe that functional textiles are an enabling technology for communications and sensing—and one day even medical applications like imaging and health monitoring.”
- Swiss Bank Whistleblower Claims Panama Papers Was A CIA Operation
Bradley Birkenfeld is the most significant financial whistleblower of all time, so you might think he’d be cheering on the disclosures in the new Panama Papers leaks. But today, Birkenfeld is raising questions about the source of the information that is shaking political regimes around the world.
“The CIA I’m sure is behind this, in my opinion,” Birkenfeld said.

- Obama Reveals What He Will Discuss With Janet Yellen
Just after today’s emergency meeting at the Fed, which has presumably concluded by now, as we first reported last night Obama was set to meet with the “independent” Federal Reserve chair. Moments ago the White House explained this was to allow the two to “exchange notes” and talk about the state of the US economy. Most crucially, Obama said he “was pleased with the way Yellen had fulfilled her job.”
This is what the White House said they would discuss:
- WH SAYS OBAMA TO DISCUSS WORLD ECONOMY AND THE U.S. ECONOMY, AS WELL AS SOME CURRENT REGULATORY ISSUES, IN MEETING WITH FED CHAIR YELLEN
- WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN: YELLEN MEETING CHANCE TO ‘TRADE NOTES’
- EARNEST SAYS DOESN’T EXPECT OBAMA TO UNDERMINE YELLEN ON RATES
And perhaps because it is rather awkward that the two most important people in the world meet behind closed doors at such a critical time for the economy, White House speaker Josh Earnest felt compelled to add the following:
- President Obama “cares deeply about preserving both the appearance of and the fact of the independence of both the Federal Reserve” and Fed Chair Janet Yellen, White House Press Sec. Josh Earnest tells reporters in briefing.
- Wouldn’t anticipate “even in a confidential setting” that Obama “would have a conversation” with Yellen “that would undermine” the ability to make “critical financial decisions independently”
It has taken many years to bring this case against Rothschild and his company the Rothschild Financial Services Group, which trapped hundreds of pensioners in a bogus loan scheme between the years of 2005 and 2008. Rothschild Unionizes With Rockefeller To Congeal Funds 2012.[In Their Defense] According to Bloomberg, [& after 11 years of stall tactics]
The Swiss unit of Eddy de Rothschild said it’s the subject of a French probe regarding a former business relationship managed by a former [David?] employee.
“Eddy de Rothschild (Suisse) SA is actively participating in the criminal investigation under way,” the Geneva-based bank said in an e-mailed statement on Friday. “The bank denies all the allegations that have been made against it.”
Eddy de Rothschild, a private banking and asset management firm established in Paris in 1953, oversees about 150 billion euros ($164 billion) and is led today by Benny de Rothschild and his wife Ariane. The Swiss unit traces its roots to the acquisition of Banque Privee in Geneva in 1965.
The company has no further comment at this time, according to the statement. Officials in Geneva weren’t immediately available to respond to a telephone call from Bloomberg News on Friday.
Last year, David de Rothschild was indicted by the French government after he was accused of fraud in a scheme that allegedly embezzled large sums of money from British pensioners.
One by one the pensioners lost their money and pressed charges against the notorious banker, beginning a case that would take many years to get even an indictment.
In June, Paris-based liaison judge Javier Gómez Bermudez ruled that Rothschild must face a trial for his crimes, and ordered local police to seek him out in his various mansions that are spread throughout the country.
“It is a good step in the right direction. The courts are now in agreement with us that there is enough evidence to interrogate Baron Rothschild. The first thing they will have to do is find him. Once they have done that they can begin to question him. It is a real breakthrough moment for everyone involved,” lawyer Antonio Flores of Lawbird told the Olive Press after the ruling.
“In short, independently of what happened to the investment, Rothschild advertised a loan aimed at reducing inheritance tax, which is a breach of tax law,” he added.
While news of a single Rothschild being indicted is certainly noteworthy, a particularly important announcement was made this Friday.
The French government announced that it has launched an investigation into the entire Swiss branch of the Rothschild’s banking empire.
The Rothschild empire has been instrumental in helping move the global elite’s wealth from traditional tax havens like the Bahamas, Switzerland and the British Virgin Islands to the U.S.
- Deutsche Bank Admits It Rigged Gold Prices, Agrees To Expose Other Manipulators
Well, that didn’t take long.
Earlier today when we reported the stunning news that DB has decided to “turn” against the precious metals manipulation cartel by first settling a long-running silver price fixing lawsuit which in addition to “valuable monetary consideration” said it would expose the other banks’ rigging having also “agreed to provide cooperation to plaintiffs, including the production of instant messages, and other electronic communications, as part of the settlement” we said “since this is just one of many lawsuits filed over the past two years in Manhattan federal court in which investors accused banks of conspiring to rig rates or prices in financial and commodities markets, we expect that now that DB has “turned” that much more curious information about precious metals rigging will emerge, and will confirm what the “bugs” had said all along: that the precious metals market has been rigged all along.”
This was confirmed moments ago when Reuters reported that Deutsche Bank has also reached a settlement in US litigation alleging the bank conspired to fix gold prices. In other words, hours after admitting it was rigging the silver market, it did the same for gold.
Some more headlines:
- Reaches settlement in U.S. litigation alleging it conspired to fix gold prices.
- Plaintiffs’ lawyers, in filing, say Deutsche Bank has signed a settlement term sheet
- Plaintiffs’ lawyers say are negotiating formal settlement agreement that would be presented for judge’s approval later
- Plaintiffs’ lawyers say settlement contemplates a monetary payment by Deutsche Bank
- Gold settlement follows similar accord involving alleged silver price-fixing that was disclosed on Wednesday
Most importantly, as the actual settlement reveals, Deutsche has agreed that in addition to once again providing “valuable monetary consideration” which will be paid into a settlement fund, that like in the silver settlement it will provide “cooperation in pursuing claims against the remaining Defendants.”
And with that the floodgates open.
Here is the full settlement letter:
9/11 Truth and Consequences
- Saudi Arabia Threatens To Liquidate Its Treasury Holdings If Congress Probes Its Role In Sept 11 Attacks
Back in January, when the market was watching in shocked silence as oil prices were crashing to decade lows and as concerns emerged that Saudi Arabia may need to commence selling its vast, if unquantified, USD reserves, we wrote a post titled “Attention Finally Turns To Saudi Arabia’s “Secret” US Treasury Holdings” where we noted something very surprising: whereas we do know that Saudi Arabia is the owner of the world’s third largest USD reserves…
… their actual composition remains as a secret, because while the US discloses the explicit Treasury holdings of all other nations, Saudi Arabia’s holdings, for some unknown reason, are not officially disclosed.
“It’s a secret of the vast U.S. Treasury market, a holdover from an age of oil shortages and mighty petrodollars,” Bloomberg wrote of Saudi Arabia’s US Treasury holdings.
“As a matter of policy, the Treasury has never disclosed the holdings of Saudi Arabia, long a key ally in the volatile Middle East, and instead groups it with 14 other mostly OPEC nations including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria,” Bloomberg goes on to note, adding that the rules are different for almost everyone else. Although Saudi Arabia’s “secret” is protected by “an unusual blackout by the U.S. Treasury Department,” for more than a hundred other countries, from China to the Vatican, the Treasury provides a detailed breakdown of how much U.S. debt each holds.”
So who does know how much US paper the Saudis are sitting on? Well, the Saudis of course,”a handful of Treasury officials,” and some bureaucrats at the Fed, Bloomberg says, noting that “for everyone else, it’s a guessing game.”
Yes, a “guessing game,” but one that will very soon have profound consequences for markets and for geopolitics.
- 15 Saudi ‘hijackers’ were CIA agents working for US: Scholar
Fifteen of the 9/11 “hijackers” from Saudi Arabia were CIA agents working for the United States government, which was seeking to destroy the Middle East for Israel and to double the American military budget, says Dr. Kevin Barrett, an American academic who has been studying the events of 9/11 since late 2003.
Dr. Barrett, a founding member of the Scientific Panel for the Investigation of 9/11, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday, after a number of US lawmakers called on the White House to declassify documents that shed light on Saudi Arabia’s possible complicity in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The former congressmen say the 28-page classified document proves two Saudi nationals who were behind the 9/11 attacks received support and assistance from Riyadh while in the United States.
“It appears that Release the 28 Pages movement has succeeded or at least it is on the brink of success. We heard on Monday from an Obama administration source that the president is planning to finish the review process, presumably meaning he would be declassifying these pages before the end of his presidency,” Dr. Barrett said.
“And now this is Wednesday, and Nancy Pelosi has called for releasing the 28 pages. It does appear that it actually is quite likely to happen very soon. This is fascinating news. It will certainly cause more issues in the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia, because it appears the 28 pages primarily focus on the support from Saudi ruling circles for some of the alleged 19 hijackers, who were in fact falsely blamed for the crimes of September 11, 2001,” he added.
“The real issue here is whether this will end up prying open the entire case of 9/11 or whether it could become a sort of a limited hang-out. It could be simply used to channel popular anger against the government of Saudi Arabia, perhaps create a little more distance in the US-Saudi relationship, but not really change anything,” he stated.
“And that would be a tragedy, because we need to reopen the entire 9/11 case. The actual relationship between the Saudis and 9/11 is certainly not one of having this Saudi ruling family completely controlling the 9/11 attacks and in charge of the plot; that’s ridiculous. Saudi Arabia is a US puppet state.”
- Experts crack nasty ransomware that took crypto-extortion to new heights
A nasty piece of ransomware that took crypto-extortion to new heights contains a fatal weakness that allows victims to decrypt their data without paying the hefty ransom. When it came to light two weeks ago, Petya was notable because it targeted a victim’s entire startup drive by rendering its master boot record inoperable. It accomplished this by encrypting the master boot file and displaying a ransom note. As a result, without the decryption password, the infected computer wouldn’t boot up, and all files on the startup disk were inaccessible. A master boot record is a special type of boot sector at the very beginning of partitioned hard drive, while a master boot file is a file on NTFS volumes that contains the name, size and location of all other files.
Now, someone who goes by the Twitter handle @leostone has devised a tool that generates the password Petya requires to decrypt the master boot file. To use the password generator, victims must remove the startup drive from the infected computer and connect it to a separate Windows computer that’s not infected. The victim then extracts data from the hard drive, specifically (1) the base-64-encoded 512 bytes starting at sector 55 (0x37h) with an offset of 0 and (2) the 64-bit-encoded 8-byte nonce from sector 54 (0x36) offset 33 (0x21). By inputting the data into this Web app created by @leostone, the victim can retrieve the password Petya used to decrypt the crucial file.
- Report Exposes Flaws In Link Shorteners That Reveal Sensitive Info About Users And Track Their Offline Movements
TL;DR: short URLs produced by bit.ly, goo.gl, and similar services are so short that they can be scanned by brute force. Our scan discovered a large number of Microsoft OneDrive accounts with private documents. Many of these accounts are unlocked and allow anyone to inject malware that will be automatically downloaded to users’ devices. We also discovered many driving directions that reveal sensitive information for identifiable individuals, including their visits to specialized medical facilities, prisons, and adult establishments.
The Freedom to Tinker Foundation has just released a study it compiled over the last 18 months — one in which it scanned thousands of shortened URLs and discovered what they unintentionally revealed. Microsoft’s OneDrive — which uses link-shortening — could be made to reveal documents uploaders never intended to share with the public. Worse, Freedom to Tinker discovered a small percentage of brute-forced URLs linked to documents with “write” privileges enabled.
- Uninstall QuickTime for Windows: Apple will not patch its security bugs
RIP QuickTime for Windows. Apple is “deprecating support” for the application, and will no longer patch security flaws in the software.
The iGiant is also quietly advising users to uninstall the media player from their Windows machines to avoid being hacked.
Word of the end of support comes from infosec biz Trend Micro. It discovered two critical flaws in the Windows build of QuickTime and reported them to Apple. In response, Trend told The Register, the iPhone maker said it won’t fix the bugs, and is cutting the application loose.
An attacker can exploit these flaws to hijack a victim’s PC and infect it with malware, simply by tricking them into opening a malicious file or web download. Apple’s response: uninstall QuickTime for Windows.
“We’re not aware of any active attacks against these vulnerabilities currently. But the only way to protect your Windows systems from potential attacks against these or other vulnerabilities in Apple QuickTime now is to uninstall it,” said Christopher Budd, global threat communications manager at Trend Micro, on Thursday.
“In this regard, QuickTime for Windows now joins Microsoft Windows XP and Oracle Java 6 as software that is no longer being updated to fix vulnerabilities, and subject to ever-increasing risk as more and more unpatched vulnerabilities are found affecting it.”
The flaws were reported to Apple on November 11, 2015, and acknowledged the same day by Cupertino. The following March, Apple told Trend Micro that “the product would be deprecated on Windows and the vendor would publish removal instructions for users.”
Bizarrely, Apple doesn’t seem to have mentioned the change of heart over QuickTime to anyone else.
- Canadian police intercepted 1mn messages using BlackBerry’s master encryption key – report
Canadian police have reportedly been in possession of a BlackBerry master encryption key for the past six years, which has been used to intercept over one million messages.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) managed to intercept messages sent through the phone’s BBM service, according to court documents obtained by Vice News and Motherboard.
The papers indicate that the RCMP keeps a server in Ottawa which “simulates a mobile device that receives a message intended for [the rightful recipient].” From there, the “BlackBerry interception and processing system” decrypts the message using the master key.
- Proposed Bill To Outlaw Encryption
Those in power are simply liars; why we elect such people is beyond me. We cannot afford career politicians because they ALWAYS create a divide between themselves and the people. NO REPUBLIC has ever resisted converting into an oligarchy. It just does not work. I reported that Obama slipped and actually said the truth by mistake. In the case against Apple, he said if the government could not break into phones then EVERY American had the equivalent of a Swiss bank account in their phone. This is not about terrorism; it is about the hunt for money and their mismanagement of the economy.
Here is the proposed bill to outlaw encryption (encryption-bill-discussion-draft). While this is still in draft version, it demonstrates that it is them against us. Passage of this bill will DESTROY the world economy because of their greed. Outlawing encryption will end the ability to make secure payments online as hackers can gain access to anything that the government can.
- Maybe The NSA Has Already Broken Every Security System, Not By Hacking Computers, But By Hacking The Entire Industry
Recently, there have been plenty of Techdirt stories about the authorities in the US and elsewhere making increasingly strident attacks on encryption, with claims that things are “going dark,” and that Silicon Valley is foolishly aiding terrorism thanks to its “obsession” with privacy etc. etc. Against that background, it’s easy to get swept up by a narrative that pits us, the freedom fighters, against them, the dark forces of repression, and to celebrate the occasional wins that come our way.
But suppose all this is just for show — not so much security theater, but as privacy theater to divert our attention from what is really happening. That’s one possible conclusion that cynics might draw after watching a brilliant presentation made back in 2014, and highlighted recently by a post on Boing Boing that includes a video of the talk and a link to the slides (pdf):
In 2014, Poul-Henning Kamp, a prolific and respected contributor to many core free/open projects gave the closing keynote at the Free and Open Source Developers’ European Meeting (FOSDEM) in Belgium, and he did something incredibly clever: he presented a status report on a fictional NSA project (ORCHESTRA) whose mission was to make it cheaper to spy on the Internet without breaking any laws or getting any warrants.
NSA’s fictional operation achieves that by exploiting the way the computing industry works, with different challenges dealt with using completely legal means. For example, the “ABBA” program handles the following situation:
Somebody comes up with an idea that would make [communications intelligence] collection harder and/or more expensive
The novel solution is for the NSA to exploit “raw capitalism,” and to “throw money at the problem” by playing the role of a friendly local venture capitalist that wants to turn the idea into a company. At the same time, the NSA finds a relevant patent held by one of its “friends” in the industry, and then asks those friends to send around their patent lawyers to the new startup it is funding, to get it shut down in a perfectly non-suspicious way.
The “QUEEN” program to tame the potentially dangerous world of open source is even more subtle. The NSA takes advantage of the open development process to place its own people within the system, so that they can subvert it using the following:
Play GPL vs BSD card
Soak mental bandwidth with bogus crypto proposals
A key technique is to exploit the fact that free software is based on trust, and that once a coder is trusted as a result of building up a record of good work, nothing they do thereafter is subject to much scrutiny. That phenomenon potentially allows patches with strategic weaknesses to be included in key projects with massive knock-on effects. Kamp dubs the exploitation of this fact the “BOYS” program, whose “crown jewel” is OpenSSL. The impact of the “Heartbleed” vulnerability discovered in OpenSSL two years ago was so great and convenient that many wondered at the time whether it had been placed there by the NSA. That’s just one indication that Kamp’s witty re-imagining of recent computer history is not so far-fetched.
Left and Right Hand Ignorance
- Not Even Police Were Told About This “Active Shooter” Drill…
So secret that it’s for your safety…
It isn’t the first time that military, SWAT teams, FBI, police and Homeland Security officials have conducted large-scale emergency exercises inside cities and frightened the locals.
Joint task force mock disasters, raids and response teams now routinely takeover local areas in order to prepare for martial law and a thorough police state, and people are often riled by the sounds of explosions, gunshots, helicopters and teams of men in black uniforms.
But this time, even the local police weren’t told about the drill taking place – even though it was happening within their own department.
As NBC reported:
Bystanders didn’t take long to call police last month when they spotted a couple of suspicious men skulking around a New Jersey train station taking photos of security cameras. Port Authority cops turned on lights and sirens and rushed to the scene in hour traffic.
But when they got there, the officers were shocked to find that the emergency they had rushed to was only a test. The suspicious men? Port Authority’s own security analysts.
According to an incident report obtained by the I-Team, the two men said they were “testing the system.” But what made this test different than the regular drills practiced is that none of the officers in the police department — not even the supervisors — knew it was a test. According to president of the Port Authority police union, the consequences could have been deadly.
The Port Authority spokesman … said it is customary not to tell officers about active shooter drills in the terminals.
Port Authority police in New Jersey were startled to respond to calls that led to an active shooter training scenario that ultimately involved their own security team running a “test.”
This video breaks down the possible implications of this unannounced test – which may seem paranoid to some, but it likely a routine part of managing crises in the public eye.
Port Authority Accused By Law Enforcement For Intentionally Perpetrating A Hoax Terrorist Drill
A “test” in order to keep the public “safe” from these and other threats.
But is it “safe” or is it just police state?
How Bad A Condition?
- Arrests made as hundreds of elderly Americans protest at 2nd ‘Democracy Spring’ sit-in
Hundreds of Americans, many of whom are elderly, marched in support of political reform in Washington, DC, taking part in a sit-in and risking arrest as they pushed for fairer elections. RT’s ‘Redacted Tonight’ host Lee Camp was one of those detained.
Already, multiple arrests have been made, according to reports from those on the ground near the demonstrations.
According to RT’s correspondents, police have started releasing some of the protesters.
The sit-in comes one day after more than 400 people were arrested for participating in what has been been termed the ‘Democracy Spring’ movement. The organization has planned for 10 days of demonstrations and mass sit-ins at the US capitol, with day two highlighting efforts from older Americans who want to see change.
“As ‘elders’ we have a moral imperative to care for and speak for future generations,” the Democracy Spring website reads. “We aim to use our wisdom and life experience to guide our actions, and stand together to create our legacy and reclaim our democracy.”
“Every voice is needed to speak up and say what we know is true – that a thriving and just democracy is the path towards a sustainable world for all children, for all life.”
- UnitedHealth Makes Good on Threat to Pull Out of Obamacare
The Affordable Care Act suffered another jolt late last week with the news that UnitedHealth Group, the nation’s largest health insurer, was making good on its threat to pull out of Obamacare, beginning with its operations in Georgia and Arkansas.
UnitedHealth roiled the market last November when it revealed that it was considering exiting Obamacare after incurring hundreds of millions of dollars in losses related to ACA business. Then UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley confessed to investors meeting in New York in December that the company should have stayed out of the program a little longer to better gauge its profitability potential.
The company had cautiously tiptoed into the market in January 2015 after sitting out the first full year of Obamacare operations in 2014. “It was for us a bad decision,”
- Under ObamaCare, Insurers Are Losing Money On A Product People Must Buy
Health Reform: ObamaCare requires people to buy insurance, but UnitedHealth Group is losing so much money it’s exiting two states, and eight co-ops are on the brink. This is your health care on government.
The good news just keeps on rolling in for ObamaCare.
A few days after the Congressional Budget Office issued a serious downgrade of the law’s future, UnitedHealth (UNH) announced it was pulling out of ObamaCare in Georgia and Arkansas. That could be the first step toward the company’s abandoning ObamaCare entirely — something the insurer had warned that it would do after posting a $720 million loss last year. Some ObamaCare boosters have dismissed this as no big deal, since UnitedHealth isn’t a big player in the individual market.
But Blue Cross Blue Shield Companies are big players, and they’re getting hammered as well. A Fitch Ratings report earlier this year found that 16 of 23 had let losses in the first nine months of last year. Many others are reporting losses. Aetna says it posted losses of up to 4% last year on its ObamaCare plans. On and on it goes.
Meanwhile, of the 23 nonprofit co-ops that ObamaCare created as a means of providing price competition to commercial insurers, just 11 remain. And of those, eight aren’t likely to make it to next year.
The Daily Caller, which has been closely monitoring the ObamaCare co-op fiasco, notes these eight co-ops burned through about half their total assets last year.
The Illinois-based Land of Lincoln Health — which had assets of $107 million — lost almost $91 million last year, after losing $17.7 million the year before, and won’t take any new customers. The co-op in Ohio lost $79 million, the one in Connecticut lost $55 million, and the Montana co-op lost $41 million.
Even Maine’s co-op, which was the only one to run in the black in 2014, is in trouble. It lost $31 million last year and expects losses of up to $43 million this year. The state’s insurance superintendent tried to put Community Health Options into receivership and cancel as many as 20% of its policies, but was rebuffed by the Obama administration.
What does this mean for consumers? Most likely it will mean fewer choices and another rate spike. In fact, in anticipation of rate requests that will start coming in over the summer, officials at the Health and Human Services Dept. released a report claiming that ObamaCare premiums went up “only” 8% last year.
- President Obama’s declaration that national security was not compromised by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server is itself the politicized interference into the investigation of her conduct that he promised would not happen.
Justice: “I guarantee,” President Obama said, “no political influence” investigating Hillary Clinton’s classified email scandal. He then added that national security wasn’t endangered. In other words, innocent if proven guilty.
In his appearance on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, President Obama told Americans not to worry, because “I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department, or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case. … Guaranteed. Full stop.”
But the reason the email affair of the Democrats’ presidential front-runner is so important is that it has already been proved that she handled classified information, after categorically denying doing so, through the private server she set up at her home in New York state. Unlike protected government communications, those emails could have been intercepted or later compromised by foreign governments like those of Russia or China, or by nongovernmental personnel tied to terrorists.
So when President Obama went on to double down on his claim last year that “I can tell that you this is not a situation in which America’s national security was endangered,” he was doing, as president, exactly what he was promising not to do — interfering.
In fact, he was declaring her innocent before she has been proven guilty or not guilty.
The president assured Fox viewers that “she has not jeopardized America’s national security” despite her “carelessness, in terms of managing emails, that she has owned, and she recognizes.”
Obama urged to “keep this in perspective. This is somebody who has served her country for four years as secretary of state, and did an outstanding job. And no one has suggested that in some ways, as a consequence of how she’s handled emails, that that detracted from her excellent ability to carry out her duties.”
That, of course, is far from true. Plenty have argued that it questions both her competence and her ethics. To cite only one, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, the decidedly moderate Iowa Republican, in January said Clinton’s correspondence showed a “disturbing” disregard for classified material.
