Fiscal cliff deal brings no relief to struggling Americans
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a controversial bill, designed to prevent the country from potentially sliding back into recession. The fiscal cliff deal – passed earlier by the Senate – will prevent nationwide tax hikes and spending cuts from coming into force, at least for the time being – READ MORE http://on.rt.com/677m6i
The House Republicans wanted to amend the bill, but then decided they didn’t have enough support to make last-minute changes to the motion. The tug-of-war over the text revolved around a Democrat-promoted increase in income tax for the rich – for the first time in two decades. But analyst Lawrence Freeman says, that in the long run, this bill won’t make life any easier for millions of struggling Americans.
US has no plans to leave Afghanistan
An analyst tells Press TV that the United States government and its military do not have any plans to stop the killing of Afghan people and leave Afghanistan.
A US assassination drone attack has killed two people in northern Afghanistan. The drone strike killed two Afghans in the province of Kunduz on Tuesday. According to statistics published by icasualties.org earlier in the day, 398 foreign soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in 2012, compared to 2001 when the total death toll for foreign troops stood at 12. The United States and Britain bore most of the brunt of the Taliban attacks in 2012, as 309 US troops and 44 British forces were killed. The foreign fatalities for the year also included 45 soldiers from other NATO member countries. Afghan forces have also suffered a large number of casualties since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohammad Daoud Abedi, chairman of Afghan Nation Peace Council, regarding the issue.
