Uncle Sam fights Cali men over one damn penny

Randall Lawrence and Michael McConnell of California were planning on selling a rare aluminum penny at auction, but the Treasure Department sent them a letter demanding they give them the penny. The penny was never issued as legal tender, a common occurrence among coins in the possession of collector’s. But that is the basis for the Treasure Department’s claim to the penny. The Resident takes a look at the story.
